Can't Find Your Vehicle?

If your car is missing from a campus parking space, lot, or garage, follow these steps to find out what happened and locate your vehicle.

Confirm Location

Double check that you are in the correct lot, garage section, or row where you originally parked.

Call Dispatch

Call Police Dispatch at 512-245-2805. Have your license plate number or VIN ready.

Get Location Details

Dispatch check records to see if your car was towed or repossessed, and can assist in filing a missing vehicle report if necessary.

Why Might Your Car Be Moved or Towed?

  • Vehicles are subject to immediate tow and impoundment if parked in ADA accessible spaces without a permit, blocking fire lanes or emergency access routes, accumulating unpaid parking citations, or parked in unauthorized reserved spaces or lots.

  • Vehicles left unattended or unmoved in campus lots for extended periods without prior coordination with Parking Services may be tagged and impounded.

  • Certain campus parking lots and garages are reserved for athletic games and major university events. Posted signage and email notifications specify deadline times when lots must be cleared. Vehicles not moved prior to special event deadlines are subject to immediate towing at the owner's expense.

  • If police dispatch has no record of your vehicle being impounded by campus enforcement, an officer can assist you with taking a report to investigate whether the vehicle was stolen.

What You'll Need to Retrieve Your Vehicle

If your vehicle was impounded, you will need to provide the following items to verify ownership before it can be released:

  • Valid Driver's License or Government Identification
  • Proof of Vehicle Ownership (Vehicle Registration or Title)
  • Proof of Valid Auto Insurance
